Kithul flour is the starch extracted from the kithul palm tree. Kithul flour is claimed to have many health benefits according to Sri Lankan folklore and Ayurveda. It is believed that kithul flour has the ability to make your body cool and helps to get rid of problems like cracked feet, gastric ulcers, severe headaches & even reduce high blood pressure. Kithul palm flour slice (kithul piti thalapa) and kithul flour porridge are two very delicious food items that are very popular among Sri Lankans.
Kithul piti thalapa Recipe
-250 g Kithul flour
-125 g of sugar
-1 can of fresh coconut milk
- pinch of salt Method Put kithul flour into a mixing bowl and add the desired amount of salt. Add coconut milk and then add enough water to make it like a smooth batter. Add sugar and mix it well until the sugar dissolves. Pour that mixture into a pot and cook on low heat while stirring continuously. Once it starts thickening, pour that into a tray and allow it to cool down to room temperature. After it cools down, cut into pieces and serve.
